Description

Liberty Leading the People is a work of the artist Eugène Delacroix in the year 1830, to commemorate the July Revolution of the same year. This painting depicts the image of a woman wearing a Phrygian cap and holding the tricolor flag of the French Revolution while leading a group of people. It is currently displayed at the Louvre in Paris.
The woman can be identified as Marianne – the symbol of the French Revolution or France in general. Although this artwork is not the earliest painting of Marianne, it is one of the most well-known.
