Title
Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO)
Description
Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) is the main organizer and performer of events taking place in the Saigon Opera House. The runner-up or first contender in terms of the number of performances is Lune Production which has a vastly different target audience and branding to HBSO.
Through the mission of bringing (but not limited to) Western classical music to the general public, HBSO's target audiences are Vietnamese and foreigners. Thus, HBSO regularly organizes concerts that take place almost every weekend throughout the seasons (Fig. 1).
Regular concerts always include student/undergraduate-grade tickets of 80,000 VND / each, among other standard prices (Fig. 2). However, an amount of 80,000 VND for 2 hours of what is most often unfamiliar and/or difficult entertainment for the Vietnamese students is often considered quite expensive, and thus seats are often sold to a small number of participants, instead of appealing to the mass and/or new audience.
These cheapest tickets lead the audience to the highest seat of chairs on the 2nd floor. The 2nd floor feels as if it was originally used for the backstage crew to observe the performance. Normally, ticket buyers have to present their student ID cards but it is interesting how often not only students are the ones taking seats in this designated zone.
Whoever the audience is, one must comply with the stated (Fig. 3) and/or observed etiquette of attending these kinds of performances such as dressing up fancily and keeping quiet during concerts, among others.
