Title
The Treaty of Versailles in 1787
Description
The Treaty of Versailles in 1787 was held as a scroll in the hand of the statue of the French Catholic priest Pigneau de Béhaine, having been established in 1902 in front of the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
After the rebellion of Tây Sơn in the late 18th century, Nguyễn Ánh (known as Emperor Gia Long) had to search for help from the French military. At the time, he had to negotiate to agree on cutting and sharing the Vietnam territory with the French to start sending troops and weapons to fight against Tây Sơn. This negotiation result was written down in 1787 as the treaty of alliance between the lord Nguyễn Ánh (represented by Pigneau) and the French king Louis XVI (represented by the Marquis of Montmorin), which became known as the Treaty of Versailles.
