Title

The coat of arms of South Vietnam

Description

After regaining government from Bao Dai through the referendum in 1955, the first Republic of Vietnam was proclaimed in Saigon on October 22, 1955 by the new president Ngo Dinh Nhiem. In the same year, the first emblem of Republic of Vietnam was introduced. It is a bush of bamboo growing on a hill with a white background and the word “VIET NAM CONG HOA” (Republic Vietnam). Then, in 1957, another version of the emblem was published. While the bushes of bamboo remained, the shape of the emblem changed from round shape to triangle shape, the word “VIET NAM CONG HOA” was transferred to a scroll of “VIET-NAM”, encompassing a paint brush and a sword.
