Title

Overall layout of Saigon Opera House

Description

Saigon Opera House, which is also known as Saigon Municipal Theater, stands right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

Saigon Opera House is an prime example of the classical French architecture. The façade features two statues of female figures with wings and a lyre guitar on the top, an arch characterized by Muse figures along with ornamental flowers typical of Art Nouveau at its center, two iconic, half-naked Caryatid statues at the entrance, two Ionic columns, and some richly-engraved reliefs on the two sides.

This two-floor building is set 2 meters higher than the ground with a double set of doors, in order to shield it from the street vibration and traffic noise. If viewed from the sky perspective, the main building at the center can be seen stretching down to its length, and another two smaller ones standing in a symmetrical manner.
