Title

Frédégone

Description

Frédégone is a story about a French queen who is willing to challenge conventions and rules of ethics in order to achieve her desire for love (see illustration) (Paramax Films 2017).

In 2017, the HBSO staged a revived performance of Frédégone at the Saigon Opera House on October 20 and 21 (Phương Mai 2017). One article introduces the context in which Camille Saint-Saens wrote the orchestration of Frédégone: "The play has been influenced by Asian culture in the [Vietnam's Poulo Condor] island, including the use of traditional instruments such as gongs and wooden clarinets. The opera made its first performance in Paris a century ago and not performed for over a century." (Thuy Binh 2017)
