Description
Broken pediments are pediments that have the apex, the very top, "broken" or open. This will create a gap for ornament, sculpture, etc.
Broken pediments are believed to appear already in ancient Greek times, adopted as decorative form by Romans later, and being used in many varieties during the Baroque.
