Near the Sai Gon Port, four major banks created the financial district of French colonial in Saigon. Those building include: Hongkong and Shanghai Bank (1870), Banque Franco-Chinoise (1930s), Banque de l'Indochine (1930) and Banque Extérieure d'Algérie.

  1. The Hongkong and Shanghai Bank (HSBC) opened its first office in Saigon in 1870 in order to help finance the export of rice and silk from Vietnam; it built its office 100 meters from Saigon Banque de l'Indochine (HSBC n.d.).
  2. In 1925, the Banque Franco-Chinoise remodeled the building from Société Financière Française et Coloniale as to make it the bank office. It located 350 meter from the Saigon Banque de l'Indochine (Entreprises-Coloniales 2014).
  3. The Sai Gon Banque de l'Indochine, opened in 1930. It is a private bank that manages and issues currency in Indochina. 
  4. Banque Extérieure d'Algérie (BEA), the external Bank of Algeria, located 150 meter from from the Saigon Banque de l'Indochine (REIC 2014).
