Description
The French colonial period in Vietnam lasted from 1887 to 1945 in the North of Vietnam, and to 1954 in the South of Vietnam (see Stamps of French Indochina, Coins of French Indochina) . Along with Cambodia and Laos, which were also French colonies, Vietnam became part of the larger French Indochina, divided into three separate regions: Tonkin, Annam, and Cochinchina. During the French colonialism in Vietnam, the governors and local authorities have built major colonial building, such as the Post Office, the City Hall (now People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City), Saigon Opera House, etc.
