Description
Coffering is a classicizing element commonly used in the Renaissance period to decorate a ceiling, vault, or dome. Often consisting of "a series of sunken rectangular panels called 'lacunaria'" (Hopkins 2017, 142) (Fig. 1) and can remind oneself of chocolate bars (Fig. 2).
