Description
The Art Nouveau mural on the big arch remains unscathed, for it was hidden under a dome when Saigon Opera House was used as the National Assembly of the Republic of Vietnam.
The mural bears a strong resemblance to the Four Seasons Series by Alphonse Mucha, who was among the most novel artists of the Art Nouveau movement. Mucha’s original work features Printemps, Été, Automne, Hiver—each representing distinctive characteristics and moods of each season.
The diagram of nymphs includes five figures—they are believed to be, from left to right accordingly, Printemps, Été, France (who was not featured in the Four Seasons series, Automne, and Hiver.
