Description
The 200 dong banknote was produced in 1955 by National Bank of Vietnam (South Vietnam). The signatures on the banknote belong to the Central cashier, Từ Văn Qúy, and Inspector General, Nguyễn Văn Dõng. The serial number is 6-A 718413. There is no watermark in this banknote. On the obverse (front side), the banknote contains the denomination (200 dong), the serial number, the bank name, signatures, the name “Việt Nam”, and the main iconography which is a soldier beside a coconut tree, in front of a paddy field that has a farmer and a buffalo working on. On the reverse (back side), the banknote includes the dominations at four corners (by number), the domination (by word), the text “Hình phạt khổ-sai những kẻ giả mạo giấy bạc do Ngân-hàng Quốc-gia Việt-Nam phát ra” (translation: "criminal law sentences to penal labor for counterfeiting paper money issued by the National Bank of Vietnam"). And the main figure in this part is a girl with sheaves of rice within a paddy field.
The banknote implies that the Southern Vietnamese government (Republic of Vietnam) will protect the peaceful life of their citizens. The banknote was later replaced by another 200 dong banknote in 1958 with different narrative and context.
